Police in Edna, Texas have apprehended a suspect in connection with the shocking murder of 16-year-old cheerleader Lizbeth Medina. The suspect, identified as Rafael Romero, was located by the Edna Police Department in Schulenburg, Texas on Saturday.

Romero was arrested by the Texas Rangers, a division of the state's Department of Public Safety responsible for investigating major violent crimes. He has been charged with capital murder, a crime that carries the possibility of the death penalty upon conviction. Following his arrest, Romero was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

According to Medina's aunt, Ana Medina, the young cheerleader aspired to become a nurse and was a beloved member of the community. Tragically, Medina's mother, Jacqueline Medina, discovered her lifeless body in the bathtub of their home on Tuesday evening. The police were immediately called to the scene and confirmed her untimely death.

The Edna High School community came together on Saturday night to mourn the loss of Lizbeth Medina. A vigil was held to honor her memory and offer support to her grieving family and friends.

Edna Police Chief Rick Boone expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for the teenager in a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday. He conveyed that his officers remain dedicated to investigating the case and bringing closure to the family of Lizbeth Medina.

Hailing from Nebraska, Medina had been living in Texas for about a year under the care of her single mother. The Medina family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover the expenses for the funeral and memorial services. Ana Medina, Lizbeth's aunt, wrote on the fundraising page that her niece was cherished by many and will be deeply missed.

The arrest of Rafael Romero brings hope for the community of Edna, as they seek answers and closure in the devastating loss of Lizbeth Medina. The legal process will now unfold, with the suspect facing the severe charge of capital murder. As the case progresses, the community stands united, remembering and honoring the life of a promising young cheerleader taken too soon.
