A tragic incident unfolded on Friday night on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire, as a state employee faces charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) after allegedly striking and killing a man with her car. The New Hampshire State Police responded to multiple calls reporting a two-vehicle crash on the southbound side of the highway at mile marker 63 in Sanbornton, just before Exit 22.

Upon arriving at the scene, troopers discovered an Audi Q5 approximately 20 feet down the embankment and a Volkswagen Jetta about 100 feet south and off in the median. The Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Gabriel Anthony, a 24-year-old from Pittsfield, was disabled in the right-breakdown lane. Tragically, Anthony was outside his vehicle when he and the Jetta were struck by the Audi Q5 driven by Kristina Perry, a 38-year-old resident of Franklin, according to state police.

Despite their best efforts, Anthony could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. Perry, on the other hand, sustained minor injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Perry, who works for the New Hampshire Department of Children Youth and Families as a juvenile probation and parole officer, was subsequently arrested for DWI and is currently being held without bail. She is set to appear in court on Monday to face the charges against her.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services confirmed Perry's employment status and highlighted her role within the Department, working specifically with juvenile probation and parole. This unfortunate incident has cast a dark cloud over the state employee agency, and the Department is likely to face scrutiny in the aftermath of this tragedy.

As a result of the crash, one lane of I-93 was closed for approximately six hours to facilitate the investigation and clear the wreckage. State police are urging anyone with additional information regarding the incident to contact Trooper Eric Torrens at Eric.M.Torrens@dos.nh.gov.
