Special Counsel Robert Hur, who recently decided not to prosecute President Joe Biden over his handling of classified documents, will testify in a public hearing next month before a House Judiciary Committee led by Rep. Jim Jordan.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Hur will appear before the committee on March 12. Also, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is expected to participate in the hearing.
NBC News reported that Reps. Jordan, Comer, and Jason Smith wrote a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland requesting the full transcript of Biden's interview with Hur. The interview took place in October and is part of the special counsel's investigation into the president's handling of classified documents after his tenure as vice president.
The Republican leaders emphasized that Biden's handling of classified information is a crucial aspect of their impeachment inquiry. They hope that Hur's testimony and report will provide valuable evidence to support the drafting of articles of impeachment against President Biden.
So far, the three House committees leading the investigation have primarily focused on allegations of preferential treatment given to President Biden's son, Hunter Biden, by the Justice Department. They have also explored whether the president had any involvement in his son's foreign business dealings.
The upcoming testimony of Special Counsel Robert Hur is expected to shed further light on the Biden investigation and provide insights into the Justice Department's handling of classified information. As the inquiry progresses, the Republican-led House panel aims to gather substantial evidence to support their determination on whether articles of impeachment should be pursued against President Biden.
