In a highly unusual move, Special Counsel David Weiss, leading an inquiry into Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, testified to the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee and vehemently denied claims of political meddling in the case. The investigation revolves around Hunter Biden's alleged possession of a firearm while using illegal drugs.

During his closed-door testimony on Tuesday, Weiss emphasized that his probe has not been obstructed by the justice department in any way. He stated, "At no time was I blocked, or otherwise prevented from pursuing charges or taking the steps necessary in the investigation by other United States Attorneys, the Tax Division or anyone else at the Department of Justice."

The allegations of improper interference in the investigation were raised by two whistleblowers. Previously, Republicans had cited testimonies from two agents within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) claiming that the justice department hindered Weiss's investigation into Hunter Biden. However, Weiss's statement contradicted these claims.

It is worth noting that Special Counsel David Weiss's testimony to Congress in the midst of the ongoing inquiry marks a significant development. This is the first time a special counsel has appeared before Congress during an ongoing investigation.

Despite being initially appointed by former President Donald Trump, Weiss has faced criticism from Republicans who claimed that he offered Hunter Biden a "sweetheart deal" that would allow him to evade jail time for tax evasion and gun charges. This alleged deal was seen by some as evidence of a "two-tiered" justice system. However, the plea deal fell apart in court over the summer.

Hunter Biden was subsequently indicted anew in September on three federal gun charges, including possessing a firearm while using a narcotic and falsifying documents when purchasing a gun.

The investigation into Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings is also underway, with prosecutors examining whether he violated any laws related to government lobbying.

In a separate investigation led by Robert Hur, another special counsel is examining whether President Biden mishandled classified documents during his tenure as vice-president. The White House confirmed that President Biden was interviewed for this investigation over a span of two days in October.

House Republicans have focused on Hunter Biden's business dealings as a central point of inquiry, fueling discussions on whether the president should be impeached. The White House has dismissed the probe, stating that it is "based on lies."

As the investigations continue, the implications of the charges against Hunter Biden on President Biden's administration and the ongoing political discourse surrounding his son's activities remain a topic of debate and scrutiny.
