ORANGEBURG, S.C. - South Carolina State University was placed on lockdown as campus authorities responded to reports of shots fired in an academic building on Tuesday. The university confirmed that a 19-year-old student, identified as Rolando J. Ifill from Charleston, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to SC State spokesman Sam Watson, Ifill has been charged with carrying a firearm on school property. Additional charges are expected to be filed against him. Campus police swiftly responded to the situation and managed to apprehend Ifill after a foot chase.
The lockdown, which began at approximately 11:20 a.m., lasted for about 1 hour and 16 minutes, ending at approximately 12:36 p.m., as stated by Watson.
