In a startling turn of events, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers has filed charges against the manager of VIP Smoke Shop in Delhi Township, Ohio, in connection with a fatal shooting that took place during an attempted robbery earlier this year. The manager, Tony Thacker, has been indicted on multiple counts, including felonious assault charges, tampering with evidence, and possession of weapons under disability.

The incident occurred on October 20, when a group of suspects broke into the smoke shop by throwing rocks through the windows. Thacker, who resided in the back of the store, emerged with a firearm and fired shots at the would-be robbers. Tragically, 16-year-old Travis Johnson was fatally wounded as he tried to flee in a stolen vehicle.

Prosecutor Melissa Powers condemned Thacker's actions, stating, "There is simply no justification for shooting at someone as they are running away." However, Powers sent a stern warning to potential thieves, declaring, "These retail thefts will not be tolerated. If you try to rob a store, you should expect to be shot."

Thacker then proceeded to chase the remaining suspects, shooting through the front door of the store. One of the suspects, 19-year-old Amontae Carter, was seated in the back of a stolen car when Thacker fired at him. The prosecutor's office indicted Carter on charges of murder, burglary, and possession of criminal tools.

The chaotic scene continued as Thacker and his 21-year-old brother, Malachi, attempted to disable the store's security system and remove shell casings. The authorities have since indicted Malachi for tampering with evidence.

Two individuals called 911 to report the shooting. The shop owner confirmed that it was the worker, Thacker himself, who had shot the intruder in self-defense. Meanwhile, three teenagers were arrested days later after an anonymous tip. Although they were not involved in Johnson's death, all three face murder and burglary charges.

In a separate incident, Isiah Johnson, the 20-year-old brother of the deceased Travis Johnson, has been charged with felonious assault. He allegedly shot a woman at a vigil held in remembrance of his sibling. The details surrounding this incident remain under investigation.

The indicted individuals now face a long legal process ahead. If convicted of all charges, Thacker could face substantial penalties, including multiple counts of felonious assault and tampering with evidence. Carter, on the other hand, could potentially face life in prison with a possibility of parole after 15 years.

As the case unfolds, the community waits for justice to be served, and the prosecutor's warning is a stark reminder that the consequences of criminal actions can have severe ramifications. Authorities, meanwhile, continue their efforts to maintain public safety and restore a sense of security in the area.
