In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the 2020 presidential election, a grand jury in Nevada has indicted six individuals on charges related to a scheme involving fake electors. Among the accused are prominent Nevada State Party GOP chair Michael McDonald and vice chair Jim DeGraffenreid, both of whom have previously appeared before a criminal grand jury investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Durward James Hindle III, Shawn Meehan, and Eileen Rice were also charged in the indictment.

According to the statement released by Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford on Wednesday, the charges filed against the alleged fake electors include offering a false instrument for filing and uttering a forged instrument. These charges stem from the submission of a "certificate of the votes of the 2020 Electors from Nevada" to various officials, including the President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States, the Nevada Secretary of State, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.

The indictment also revealed a list of witnesses, which notably includes Kenneth Chesebro, a former attorney for ex-President Donald Trump. Chesebro, who is also involved in a separate Georgia case with Trump, is reported to be cooperating with investigators, according to the Washington Post.

The alleged elector scheme is believed to have spanned across battleground states, where pro-Trump electors falsely claimed that he had won their respective states, when in fact, Joe Biden was the rightful winner.

Attorneys for the indicted electors were not available for comment. Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford emphasized the importance of defending the institutions of democracy in his statement, vowing to challenge any attacks on democracy that go unchallenged.

As the investigation unfolds, the indictment of these six individuals marks a significant step towards uncovering the truth behind the alleged elector scheme and ensuring the integrity of the democratic process.
