In a tragic turn of events, new details have emerged surrounding the murder of Jami Kasemeier in Waukon, Iowa. Brandon Kasemeier, her estranged husband, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after police discovered Jami's lifeless body at a residence on Monday. The shocking revelations came to light through a recently filed criminal complaint, shedding light on the events leading up to this heinous act.
According to the complaint, concerns arose when a relative was unable to reach Jami and subsequently requested a welfare check. The relative informed the police about a troubling phone call between Jami and Brandon on Sunday, which appeared to be a dispute. During the call, Brandon forcibly ended the conversation after taking control of Jami's phone. The family later reported that Brandon had used Jami's phone to contact them, deliberately preventing them from speaking to her. Since that call, Jami had not been in contact with her loved ones, raising further alarm.
Both Jami and Brandon failed to show up for work the following day, further deepening the suspicion surrounding their whereabouts. Officers, armed with a search warrant, were compelled to forcefully enter the home. It was there, inside the residence, that they discovered Jami's lifeless body with extensive facial injuries. The investigation also revealed the presence of an empty handgun case as well as several fired .22 caliber cartridge casings in the house.
Brandon was apprehended in Loveland, Colorado on Monday, where he was found staying at a hotel and driving a vehicle that was registered under both his and Jami's names. The police, during the arrest, uncovered a .22 revolver under the driver's seat of the vehicle.
Court documents obtained by KCRG indicate a history of domestic abuse allegations between Brandon and Jami. In 2015, Jami reached out to law enforcement after Brandon had threatened her and other family members. Despite a no-contact order, Brandon persistently attempted to reach her with approximately 90 phone calls. Charges against him were later reduced after pleading guilty to third-degree harassment, resulting in no jail time.
Three years later, Jami sought help from the police once again, this time to remove Brandon from her home. In 2018, she recounted an incident where Brandon had held her down and choked her. During that altercation, Brandon chillingly warned Jami that if the authorities became involved, she would be leaving in a body bag. Unfortunately, the domestic abuse charge stemming from this incident was ultimately dismissed.
As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Jami Kasemeier and grapples with the tragic circumstances surrounding her untimely death. Brandon Kasemeier remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
