In an unfortunate turn of events, Senator Joe Manchin's wife, Gayle Manchin, was involved in a car accident on Monday while traveling from the airport to their hotel in Birmingham, Alabama. The accident occurred as they were en route to attend an Appalachian Regional Commission event scheduled for today.

According to a statement released by Senator Manchin, both Gayle and her colleague, Guy Land, were admitted to UAB Hospital and are currently receiving excellent medical care. Despite the distressing incident, Gayle's condition has been reported as stable. As a precautionary measure, she will remain in the hospital for a couple of days.

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) also issued a statement, describing how another vehicle collided with the car carrying Gayle and Guy while they were on their way to the hotel. Further details about the accident have not been disclosed at this time.

Meanwhile, Senator Manchin has been attracting attention for his potential third-party presidential bid after Super Tuesday, which is set to take place on March 5th. The West Virginia Democrat stated that Super Tuesday would essentially determine the direction of the forthcoming elections. He acknowledged that people are seeking alternative options and hinted that he too would consider exploring those possibilities.

It's worth noting that Senator Manchin had previously announced his decision not to seek re-election for his Senate seat, leading to speculation about his potential participation in the 2024 presidential race. As part of his efforts to bridge the divide between moderate voters and move away from the extremes of the left and right, Manchin initiated a nationwide campaign named "Americans Together."

Currently, our thoughts are with Senator Manchin and his wife, hoping for Gayle's swift recovery while they deal with the aftermath of this harrowing accident.
