A second suspect has been apprehended in connection with the shooting that occurred at Morgan State University during homecoming celebrations, leaving five people injured. Federal authorities announced the arrest on Monday, identifying the suspect as 18-year-old Jovon Williams. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and other counts. Williams was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. where he also faces separate drug and gun charges. The first suspect, who remains unidentified due to being a minor, was previously arrested.

The incident took place on October 3 following a coronation ceremony for this year's Mister and Miss Morgan State. As students were making their way from a campus auditorium to the student center for a coronation ball, shots were fired, causing chaos and leaving four students injured. Police believe the intended target was not among those harmed. The campus was put on lockdown for hours, with classes and homecoming activities being canceled for the remainder of the week.

Authorities have determined that the shooting was a result of a dispute and involved two shooters. Surveillance video obtained from the university campus aided detectives in identifying the suspects. Days after the incident, surveillance images were released to the public in the hopes of tracking down the individuals shown.

The Maryland Office of the Public Defender stated that it is too early to determine if they will represent Williams in the Baltimore case. However, it was revealed that Williams had been wanted by law enforcement since June on federal gun and drug charges in Washington, D.C. Law enforcement announced the summer arrests of 12 co-conspirators, referred to as the "Kennedy Street Crew," who are accused of drug trafficking and using firearms to protect their territory in Northwest Washington.

City leaders in Baltimore commended the efforts of law enforcement in apprehending Williams and expressed their commitment to holding those responsible for gun violence accountable. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott issued a statement, acknowledging the impact of the incident on the Morgan State community and emphasizing the city's dedication to ensuring public safety.

The arrest of the second suspect brings a sense of relief to the Morgan State University community, as they can now start the process of healing and moving forward from the traumatic event. In the face of violence and disregard for human life, authorities are resolved to bring justice and protect the well-being of the community.
