OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Tragedy struck once again in Omaha as the teenage driver of a pickup truck involved in an ambulance crash last week has sadly passed away. Seth Fereherm, a 17-year-old, had been in extremely critical condition following the three-vehicle crash near 204th and Harrison streets that had already claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman.
Fereherm had been driving a Toyota Tundra at the time of the accident and was transported from the scene in "extremely critical condition." Despite efforts to save him, Fereherm's injuries proved to be fatal, leading to his untimely demise.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) expressed their condolences to the Fereherm family for their devastating loss. The crash, which occurred near the Douglas County line, also resulted in the death of Debra Brookhouser from Gretna, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that the ambulance involved in the crash was responding to an emergency, with lights and sirens activated, on its way to a hospital. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when it collided with Fereherm's pickup truck and another vehicle in the process.
In addition to the fatalities, three members of the Gretna Volunteer Fire Department sustained injuries in the accident. Their current conditions are unknown.
The DCSO confirmed on Wednesday that the investigation into the crash is still ongoing. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The community of Omaha remains in shock as two lives have been lost in this devastating incident.
The Omaha ambulance crash serves as a somber reminder of the dangers that emergency personnel and innocent individuals face on the roads. It highlights the importance of increased road safety measures and precautions to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring in the future.
