Military analysts draw parallels between Russia's strategy for Avdiivka and its tactics in Bakhmut. Intent on pinching off a Ukrainian salient, Moscow has repeatedly attempted this classic military maneuver seen during the latter days of World War II. However, George Barros, a Russia analyst, highlights that Russia is employing a similar but unsuccessful strategy in Avdiivka, characterized by brutal attacks and a tremendous amount of combat power, dubbing it a "throwing good money after bad" approach.

Combat footage from the area around Avdiivka reveals destroyed armor, indicative of the heavy losses suffered by Moscow during the ongoing fighting. Lack of coordination and preparation by military leadership, coupled with unrelenting Ukrainian artillery attacks, have contributed to the situation.
