In a shocking display of aggression, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on Kherson Oblast, striking the region with artillery barrages, mortar fire, tanks, grenades, drones, and missiles. The governor of Kherson Oblast, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported that the area has been targeted a staggering 62 times in the past day alone, resulting in devastating civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
Governor Prokudin revealed that amidst the relentless assault, one civilian tragically lost their life, while five others sustained injuries. The city of Kherson bore the brunt of the attacks, with one civilian killed and another injured by Russian mortar fire on the morning of November 12. This act of aggression further highlights the ruthless nature of the Russian forces, who continue to endanger innocent lives.
Even the sanctity of a regional library was not spared, as Governor Prokudin disclosed that it was targeted in one of the attacks. The building suffered significant damage, raising concerns about the preservation of cultural artifacts and the loss of irreplaceable knowledge stored within its walls. The regional prosecutor's office stated that the library was likely hit by a missile, launched from a Russian Su-35 fighter jet.
These recent attacks come on the first anniversary of Kherson's liberation from Russian forces. Ukrainian forces bravely seized control of the region, marking a significant turning point in the conflict. However, Russian forces have persistently targeted the liberated areas from their retreat on the east bank of the Dnipro River. This consistent aggression has resulted in daily civilian casualties and extensive damage to the region's infrastructure.
The escalating violence in Kherson Oblast demands immediate international attention and condemnation. The loss of innocent lives and the destruction of vital infrastructure is an appalling disregard for the principles of peace and stability. The Ukrainian government, along with international bodies, must take decisive actions to ensure the safety and protection of the civilians in Kherson Oblast.
As the conflict rages on, it is essential to remember the human cost and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution. The international community must unite in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and condemning Russia's unwarranted aggression in Kherson Oblast.
