In a significant escalation of tensions, the Ukrainian air force has reported that Russia launched approximately 40 air attacks on Ukraine overnight. The air force managed to successfully destroy eight missiles, while more than 20 other devices failed to reach their intended targets due to active measures of electronic warfare.

Russia claims to have targeted facilities involved in the production of ammunition and drones in Ukraine. The country's defense ministry in Moscow stated that its armed forces conducted a group strike against the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, specifically focusing on places producing shells, gunpowder, and unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the Russian defense ministry, all designated facilities were hit.

No fatalities have been reported thus far, but Ukrainian authorities have confirmed that a civilian in the northeastern Sumy region was wounded during the attacks.

The Ukrainian air force disclosed that Russia fired Kinzhal missiles, known for their high level of maneuverability and speed, moving at several times the speed of sound. At least five regions across Ukraine experienced missile strikes, with local officials from those provinces confirming the successful interception and destruction of the missiles.

One particularly striking incident occurred in the northern region of Chernihiv, where the police shared an image of a large crater caused by a downed missile. The debris from the missile damaged several private homes and non-residential buildings, leading to substantial destruction, although no human casualties were reported. Tragically, a dog lost its life in the incident.

The neighboring country of Poland also responded to the increased level of threat by activating its air defense systems briefly.

Meanwhile, France's newly appointed foreign minister, Stephane Sejourne, arrived in Kyiv on Saturday for his first official trip abroad. This visit is being seen as a clear demonstration of support as Ukraine faces the ongoing Russian invasion, which is nearing its second year. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba praised Sejourne's visit, highlighting his bravery in the face of Russia's large-scale missile attack.

Sejourne emphasized that Ukraine is and will remain France's priority, expressing unwavering support for the Ukrainian people during these challenging times. The foreign minister also pledged to address European Union and bilateral legal issues to facilitate the establishment of more military production facilities in Ukraine by French companies.

The visit from Sejourne follows the recent trip of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who announced increased military funding for Ukraine. Sunak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bilateral security agreement that will remain in effect for the next 10 years, showing Western support until Ukraine achieves its desired NATO membership status.

As the situation intensifies, diplomatic efforts and international support continue to play a crucial role in Ukraine's fight against the ongoing Russian aggression.
