In a bid to overturn his double murder conviction, Alex Murdaugh is set to appear for a status conference hearing on Tuesday. The hearing will be presided over by Retired State Supreme Court Justice Jean Toal, who takes over from Judge Clifton Newman. The conference comes in the wake of accusations made by Murdaugh's defense team, alleging tampering with the jury by Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill.

During the status conference, Judge Toal is expected to address procedural issues brought forth by both the defense and the state. These include determining which potential witnesses' testimonies will be allowed during the open court proceedings. Interestingly, the defense has included several jurors on their potential witness list, along with Becky Hill herself. Additionally, Judge Newman and another county clerk who worked alongside Hill during the trial are set to testify.

Notably, Becky Hill's son and daughter, Jeff Colt Hill and an unnamed daughter, are also listed as potential witnesses. Jeff Colt Hill is currently facing a felony count of wiretapping, and there are indications that this charge may be linked to ethics complaints filed against his mother.

The status conference is scheduled to take place at the Richland County Courthouse in Columbia at 9:30 a.m. It is anticipated that this conference will serve as a platform for addressing crucial questions and establishing the groundwork for the retrial of Alex Murdaugh's double murder case.

As this ongoing legal saga unfolds, the spotlight remains on the courtroom proceedings, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting the next steps in the pursuit of justice.
