The rescue teams, comprised of members from Killington Search and Rescue (KSAR), Killington Fire Rescue, Killington Rescue Ski Patrol, and Rescue Inc., braved freezing temperatures and treacherous terrain to bring the stranded individuals back to safety.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. when the Killington Police Department received a distress call. Without wasting any time, the rescue teams immediately sprang into action, hiking and snowshoeing approximately five miles to reach the stranded skiers and riders. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the determined responders persevered to evaluate the situation and guide the lost individuals back to safety.
Just as the teams were preparing to wrap up the operation, another distress call came in. Two additional skiers had become disoriented in the backcountry. Showing unwavering dedication to their duty, several rescue crews promptly returned to the woods to locate and safely extract the lost individuals. The rescue effort continued well into the evening hours, with the two skiers finally being brought to safety around 7:30 p.m.
