In a scathing letter addressed to President Joe Biden, 26 Republican attorneys general have expressed their support for Texas' efforts to secure its southern border with Mexico, demanding that the President "get out of the way." The attorneys general argue that Texas has the right to protect itself from what they describe as a "coordinated assault" by millions of migrants entering the U.S. illegally.

The letter specifically condemns President Biden and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for impeding Texas' attempts to stem the flow of illegal migrants entering the state. It highlights an incident where Border Patrol agents allegedly removed barriers installed by Texas, allowing over 300 migrants to enter the state illegally.

Last week, the Supreme Court temporarily overturned a lower court's injunction that banned federal officials from cutting razor wire barriers placed by Texas along its border. This decision has further fueled Texas' determination to defend its borders against what Governor Abbott has referred to as a migrant "invasion."

The attorneys general assert that the federal government should secure the border and allow Texas to do the job if they are unwilling or unable to do so themselves. They argue that states must have the ability to defend themselves from invasion and urge President Biden to enforce the law and protect the border.

The letter is signed by attorneys general from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Despite federal intervention, Texas remains steadfast in reinforcing its borders and has signaled its refusal to comply with the administration's demands. The authors of the letter commend Texas for its continued efforts to secure the border and condemn the federal government's attempts to dismantle the barriers created by the state.

Since President Biden took office, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data reveals that over 6 million migrants have been encountered entering the country illegally. December alone saw a record-breaking number of migrant encounters, with over 302,000 reported, excluding undetected entries. Additionally, 19 individuals on the FBI terror watchlist were encountered during that same month.

In response to the ongoing border crisis, Republicans in Congress are preparing to remove DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The House Homeland Security Committee, which is currently controlled by Republicans, is set to vote on articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas, with intentions to send them to the full House for consideration.

While Senate leaders Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell have been negotiating a deal to address the border crisis, it seems that their proposed agreement, which links U.S. foreign aid funding for Ukraine to new domestic immigration policy, will not gain traction in the House. Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, has indicated that he would seek a floor vote on articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas as soon as possible.

The border crisis continues to escalate, causing concern among Republican lawmakers and highlighting the ongoing need for comprehensive immigration reform to address the challenges at the southern border.
