In a disturbing turn of events, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican representative from Georgia's 14th Congressional District, has once again become the target of a "swatting" incident. This marks the eighth time that Greene has experienced such a malicious act, as confirmed by local police to NBC News.
The latest incident occurred at Greene's residence in Georgia, where she was celebrating Christmas with her family. Greene took to X to share her distress, stating, "I was just swatted. This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here."
According to Major Rodney Bailey of the Rome Police Department in Georgia, the false report claimed that a person hailing from Rome, New York, had shot his girlfriend at Greene's address and threatened to harm himself next. Police promptly contacted Greene's local security liaison to inform her team about the call. However, after careful assessment by her security team, it was determined that a police response was unnecessary, and the dispatch was subsequently canceled.
Expressing her gratitude towards the local police force, Greene wrote, "My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn't have to deal with this. I appreciate them so much, and my family and I are in joyous spirits celebrating the birth of our savior Jesus Christ!" It is clear that Greene's faith, along with the support of her loved ones, has been a source of strength in the face of these distressing incidents.
"Swatting," a phenomenon where individuals make fraudulent reports of crimes in progress to elicit a police response, has unfortunately become an all-too-common occurrence in recent years. Greene has unfortunately found herself to be a prime target for such malicious hoaxes. Last year, false reports of shootings outside her home, located roughly 70 miles northwest of Atlanta, were made. Police investigated these incidents in person, only to determine that they were false reports.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene represents Georgia's 14th Congressional District, encompassing the cities of Rome, Dalton, and Calhoun in the northwestern part of the state. Despite the relentless swatting attacks she has faced, Greene remains steadfast in her commitment to serving her constituents.
As investigations continue into the latest incident, it is crucial that law enforcement agencies work diligently to apprehend and hold accountable those responsible for these false reports. Swatting not only endangers the lives of innocent individuals but also further strains the already burdened resources of law enforcement.
In the face of adversity, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's resilience shines through, highlighting the importance of unity and security in our communities.
