The forecast for rain in Northern California this weekend has seen yet another shift, as meteorological models continue to track the moisture shifting farther north. According to the latest updates from the weather team, here's what you need to know about the changing weather patterns.

Friday is expected to be a dry day with occasional clouds and mild temperatures in the afternoon. The Valley will experience highs in the mid to upper-70s. However, the focus remains on the approaching weekend, as rain chances are still in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, albeit with some modifications in the system's track, timing, and rainfall amounts.

The majority of the precipitation associated with this weather system will occur over the Pacific Northwest, well away from Northern California. "We'll see some rain here in Northern California, but it doesn't look like it's going to be much," stated Meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn.

Areas located north of Interstate 80 have the highest likelihood of experiencing light showers on Saturday. However, the rain is not expected to persist throughout the day. Residents in Sacramento might experience a sprinkle in the morning and spotty showers in the evening. Conversely, areas such as Stockton, Modesto, and Sonora are less likely to receive any rainfall.

Sunday indicates a slightly increased chance of light rain, although most areas south of Sacramento are anticipated to stay dry. For those areas that do see rain, the expected totals are relatively meager. The Valley is projected to receive a tenth of an inch or less, while the Foothills may see a quarter of an inch or less on Sunday.

Travel across the Sierra region is unlikely to be impacted by snowfall during the weekend. However, rain chances are expected to continue into Monday and Tuesday as a second weather system advances. This next system will be colder, raising the potential for minor snow accumulations at higher elevations along I-80 and Highway 50.

The local KCRA weather team advises residents to stay updated and to monitor any additional changes in the forecast. As the days progress and more model runs are conducted, the team will refine and provide more accurate details.

In conclusion, the forecast for rain in Northern California this weekend has shifted once again, with the best moisture being pushed farther north. Light showers are expected on Saturday for areas north of Interstate 80, while Sunday carries a slightly increased chance for some rain. However, most areas south of Sacramento are likely to remain dry. It is essential for residents to stay tuned to the KCRA weather team for the latest updates and changes in the forecast.
