Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has expressed that the United Kingdom is his home, despite his relocation to California with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020. In a written statement read in a London court on Thursday, the 39-year-old prince emphasized the importance of the UK in his children's heritage and his desire for them to feel at home there. Harry's statement came as part of his ongoing legal bid for taxpayer-funded police security, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The Duke of Sussex argued that the safety of his family is at stake, stating that without adequate protection, he would be putting his wife "in danger" and himself in "harm's way" while they are on UK soil. Harry and Markle claim that they were pushed out of the UK, describing their departure from royal life as a decision made reluctantly. They stated that their move was necessitated by the circumstances they faced, including the lack of support from family members.

Although Harry previously presented their decision to step back from royal duties as a mutual choice they made, royal expert Omid Scobie revealed that the couple may not have taken that path if a family member had supported them. The couple officially resigned from all royal duties in February 2021 but maintained their commitment to their duty and service to the UK and the world.

The situation escalated further when King Charles III decided to evict Harry and Markle from Frogmore Cottage, allocating the royal property to Prince Andrew. Additionally, the couple was stripped of their security as they were no longer working royals. Harry expressed concerns about the safety of his family during trips to the UK, stating that they have faced well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats.

In January 2022, Harry filed a petition requesting security for his family, offering to cover the costs privately to alleviate the burden on British taxpayers. The decision regarding Harry's security case is expected to be made at a later date.

Despite their physical distance, Prince Harry remains steadfast in his sentiment that the UK is his home, underscoring the significance of the country in his children's lives and his commitment to their safety. As the legal battle for security continues, the outcome will have far-reaching implications for the former royal couple and their ongoing relationship with their home country.
