Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep has sparked a surge of interest in India's smallest Union Territory, elevating its popularity as a potential tourist destination. The picturesque archipelago became one of the most searched words this week, as 'Lakshadweep' trended for two days on Google.

During his visit on January 2 and 3, PM Modi shared mesmerizing photos of the islands, capturing the attention of people across the country. Since then, 'Lakshadweep' has dominated search trends, garnering over "100K" searches per day on Google.

According to news agency ANI, interest in Lakshadweep reached its peak on Friday, with more than 50,000 users searching for the Union Territory on Google. This surge in interest coincided with PM Modi's declaration of being in awe of the stunning beauty of the islands and the incredible warmth of its people.

The captivating images of PM Modi donning a life jacket and exploring underwater with snorkeling gained widespread popularity. The Prime Minister expressed his excitement, describing the experience as exhilarating. His posts showcasing the scenic beauty of Lakshadweep quickly went viral, drawing further attention to the archipelago.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the global attention brought to Lakshadweep by PM Modi's visit, emphasizing the immense tourism potential of the Union Territory. He encouraged visitors to experience the unique culture, traditions, and natural beauty of Lakshadweep, which would contribute to its prosperity.

Lakshadweep, consisting of 36 islands with a total area of 32 sq km, is a uni-district Union Territory renowned for its natural splendor. The capital, Kavaratti, also serves as the principal town. Access to the islands is restricted, requiring an entry permit issued by the Lakshadweep Administration.

During his visit, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹1,150 crore in Agatti. He also inaugurated the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project, aimed at improving internet speed in the Union Territory. Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant in Kadmat, producing 1.5 lakh liters of clean drinking water daily, and initiated Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in all households of Agatti and Minicoy islands.

PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep has not only highlighted its immense tourism potential but has also drawn attention to its unique cultural heritage and natural wonders. As interest in the Union Territory continues to soar, it is expected that Lakshadweep will emerge as a sought-after destination for tourists seeking adventure and natural beauty.
