In an unprecedented move, President Joe Biden will not be featured on the primary ballot of his party in New Hampshire early next year. The president's reelection campaign cited the need to comply with the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2024 Democratic National Convention as the reason for this decision.

A letter from the Biden campaign officials addressed to New Hampshire Democrats explained that while President Biden would have liked to appear on the ballot, his obligation as a Democratic candidate required him to adhere to the rules set in motion earlier this year. As per the primary calendar proposed by President Biden himself, South Carolina will be the first state to hold a primary that awards delegates for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Despite efforts by state Democrats to persuade legislators to reverse the Granite State statute, New Hampshire law mandates that it hosts the nation's first primary. However, any candidate running in the January Democratic primary in the state will not be awarded delegates by the Democratic National Convention, a fact which prompted some disagreement within the party.

The deadline to file for New Hampshire's presidential primary is approaching, and Republican candidates have been making their way to the State Capitol to submit their candidacy, paying a $1,000 filing fee. While potential challengers to President Biden such as Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips still have time to decide, the Biden campaign appears unworried about their prospects.

Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez expressed the president's enthusiasm for having his name on New Hampshire's general election ballot as the official nominee of the Democratic Party. Rodriguez added that President Biden would tirelessly campaign to earn every single vote in the Granite State after securing the nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

Meanwhile, New Hampshire state Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley addressed the president's decision on Twitter, expressing confidence in President Biden's path to victory. Buckley asserted that NH voters have trust in and support for President Biden, which is evident through his double-digit lead over former President Donald Trump in the state.

As the filing deadline for the New Hampshire primary approaches, the absence of President Biden on the ballot has raised eyebrows. However, for the Biden campaign, the focus remains on securing the nomination at the Democratic National Convention and winning the general election in November next year.
