According to a recent poll conducted by Monmouth University in New Jersey, approximately 18% of Americans believe that pop star Taylor Swift is part of a covert federal effort to ensure President Joe Biden's re-election in 2024. This unfounded conspiracy theory has gained traction among members of the alt-right and conservative circles, who suggest that Swift's relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and her alleged influence over American politics through the NFL are indicators of her involvement.
The poll, which surveyed a diverse range of respondents, found that 71% of those who subscribed to the baseless theory identified as Republican or leaned toward the GOP. Additionally, a significant 83% of them expressed their likelihood to support former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. The study also noted that 73% of these individuals believed that the outcome of the 2020 presidential election was illegitimate.
Surprisingly, the poll revealed that 42% of those who claimed to believe in the Swift conspiracy had not even heard of it prior to being contacted by the university. This indicates that the theory has managed to gain traction among a considerable number of Trump supporters even without widespread exposure.
Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, commented on the findings, stating, "The supposed Taylor Swift PsyOp conspiracy has legs among a decent number of Trump supporters. Even many who hadn't heard about it before we polled them accept the idea as credible. Welcome to the 2024 election."
It is essential to emphasize that these claims about Swift's involvement in a secret campaign for President Biden's re-election in 2024 are completely baseless and lack any evidence. However, this poll sheds light on the influence of conspiracy theories and demonstrates the degree to which they can shape certain individuals' political beliefs.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, it is crucial for voters to critically evaluate information and rely on factual evidence when forming their opinions. Baseless conspiracies, such as the one surrounding Taylor Swift, only serve to undermine the integrity of the electoral process and further divide the nation.
