The rescue mission, which involved French and Chadian forces, saved Aleksandra Kuligowska from her captors.

According to reports, armed men posing as patients seized Dr. Kuligowska from the hospital where she worked in the central African nation. The kidnappers showed no mercy, even firing at a helicopter that attempted to rescue the doctor. However, their efforts were in vain, as the helicopter managed to retreat, leaving the kidnappers momentarily distracted and alone with their hostage.

The rescue operation took place at 03:00 local time (02:00 GMT), and authorities have praised the joint efforts of French and Chadian forces. Local governor Ildjima Abdraman revealed that the kidnappers were caught off guard when the helicopter flew overhead, allowing the rescue team to swiftly secure Dr. Kuligowska's freedom.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski expressed relief at the doctor's safe return, stating that she is healthy and unharmed. He extended his gratitude to the local forces and French allies for their brave actions in rescuing the Polish national.

Poland's Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, also expressed his utmost thanks to his French counterpart and the French troops involved in the operation. He assured the public that Dr. Kuligowska would soon return to Poland.

The identity of the group responsible for the abduction remains unknown at this time. However, it is worth noting that incidents of armed bandits kidnapping individuals for ransom occur frequently in the region, located approximately 400km (250 miles) south of N'Djamena.

While the French forces stationed in the Sahel confirmed that Chadian forces were primarily responsible for the rescue, details about the specific role played by French soldiers have not been disclosed.

France has a historical military presence in West African countries it once colonized, and in recent years, its troops have actively participated in anti-jihadist operations in the Sahel. However, following a series of coups in 2022, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have expelled French soldiers from their territories. Chad, despite experiencing a military takeover, still hosts around 1,000 French troops.

The successful rescue of Dr. Aleksandra Kuligowska brings hope, not only to her loved ones but also to those affected by rampant kidnappings in the region. The joint efforts of French and Chadian forces demonstrate a commitment to ensuring security and stability in the area.

As investigations continue, authorities will work towards identifying and holding accountable those responsible for this brazen abduction.
