Oakland, Calif. - In an early morning chase, police pursued and apprehended two stolen car suspects who led them on a high-speed pursuit from American Canyon to Oakland. The incident resulted in the arrest of 28-year-old Josue Valdez Amezcua and 24-year-old Hector Garcia Hernandez, both residents of Oakland.
The dramatic chase unfolded at 2:30 a.m., when a vigilant patrol officer noticed Amezcua and Hernandez acting suspiciously in the parking lot of Fairfield Inn and Suites in American Canyon. It was quickly discovered that the duo had fled the scene in a stolen white Chevy truck, which had been reported stolen in Alameda.
As the pursuit intensified, the suspects made desperate attempts to evade law enforcement, driving onto Interstate Highway 80. In an effort to deter the pursuing officers, they flung various construction tools out of the truck's windows.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) joined the pursuit, and additional support was provided by helicopters and drones, which aided in tracking the suspects' movements. The chase finally came to a halt when Amezcua and Hernandez barricaded themselves in the backyard of a residence located at 62nd Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland.
A significant police presence was observed at the scene around 7 a.m. as officers established a perimeter. The suspects were eventually apprehended, and a search of their person and the stolen truck revealed the presence of a 9mm handgun, which had been reported stolen in Sacramento.
Amezcua and Hernandez were transported back to Napa County and subsequently booked on several charges, including possession of a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Authorities commend the swift response and collaboration between the American Canyon Police Department and the California Highway Patrol, which resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be added as additional evidence is uncovered.
The incident serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the local authorities.
