In a recent development, the Oklahoma Republican Party has passed a resolution condemning and censuring Senator James Lankford for his involvement in bipartisan border negotiations in Congress. The state party accuses Lankford of jeopardizing the safety and security of Americans by working closely with Democrats on border policy.

The resolution, which was posted by Republican state Senator Dusty Deevers, calls on Lankford to immediately cease and desist from further negotiations and warns that the party will withhold its support until he complies. The Oklahoma Republicans argue that Lankford's collaboration with Democrats on border policies puts the security and liberty of the people of Oklahoma at risk.

CNN reached out to Lankford's office for comment, but no response has been received as of yet.

This resolution comes at a critical time, as the text of a compromise border deal, which could potentially ease the situation on the border, is expected to be ready for Senate floor consideration in the upcoming days. It is worth noting that former President Donald Trump is actively seeking to derail this deal.

The Oklahoma Republican Party's response highlights the reluctance of most GOP members to undertake any actions that may be viewed as undermining the former president. While Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut confirmed the existence of a bipartisan deal, the question remains whether Republicans are willing to follow Trump's lead and oppose the compromise.

Senator Lankford, speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday, mentioned that a vote count on the deal has yet to be determined. However, he expressed optimism and emphasized the positive initial feedback received. Regarding Trump's efforts to thwart the deal, Lankford dismissed them as based on misinformation and stated that he looks forward to the former president having the chance to review the bill once the text is available.

It is important to note that Senator Lankford won re-election in 2022 and is not scheduled for re-election until 2028.

As the border negotiations continue and tensions rise within the Republican Party, the fate of the compromise deal hangs in the balance. Only time will tell if Senator Lankford's involvement in these negotiations will have long-lasting implications for his political career and the dynamics within the Oklahoma Republican Party.
