Oakland Police Officer Killed in Line of Duty

An Oakland police officer tragically lost his life on Friday morning after being shot in the area of Interstate Highway 880 and Embarcadero, according to the Oakland Police Department. The department took to social media just before 11 a.m. to announce the devastating news.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Embarcadero, where a white Toyota Tacoma truck with bullet holes and shattered windows was discovered crashed into a parked vehicle. Shell casings were found near the entrance of the southbound Highway 880, close to 9th St. and Embarcadero.
Further details regarding the incident will be disclosed during a press conference scheduled at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Police Department headquarters.
Following the tragic event, a large gathering of police officers assembled, along with Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, who held a vigil at Highland Hospital. The San Francisco Police Officers Association also expressed their support in a social media post, sending prayers to the injured officer and standing united with the Oakland Police Department and the Oakland Police Officers Association.
In response to the investigation and for public safety, Embarcadero was temporarily closed in both directions, spanning from 5th Ave. to 16th Ave. Additionally, the Embarcadero off-ramp from northbound 880 and the 16th St. off-ramp from southbound 880 were shut down.
