Carl Chan, president of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation, expressed his deep sadness upon learning the news of Officer Le's tragic death. Chan, who has worked closely with the AAPI community over the years, described the loss as "sad and upsetting." Upon discovering that it was Officer Tuan Le who had lost his life in the line of duty, the news was devastating.
Having had the opportunity to meet Officer Le at various community events, Chan fondly recalled his upbeat and happy demeanor. He noted that Officer Le's relative serves on the board of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation. Chan further praised Officer Le for his calm and reassuring presence, stating that being around him would make others feel safe.
According to Oakland police, Officer Tuan Le was born in Vietnam and later immigrated to Oakland. In a moment of great significance, he officially became an American citizen on September 11, 2001. Le fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an Oakland police officer by graduating from the police academy in February 2020.
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) spoke highly of Officer Le, describing him as a devoted husband and emphasizing his kindness, smile, and ability to bring positive change to those around him. His commitment to making the community safer earned him the distinction of a true hero.
