Upper Deerfield, N.J. - A 25-year-old Cumberland County man, Giovanni Impellizzeri, has been arrested for allegedly contaminating food and committing lewd acts at Elizabeth Moore School in Upper Deerfield Township, according to the county prosecutor's office. Impellizzeri was apprehended by New Jersey State Police on Halloween.

The accused is facing charges of tampering with cafeteria food by adding bleach and bodily fluids, as well as engaging in "sexual acts with inanimate objects" at the school, which he reportedly recorded and shared on social media, as per a news release issued by the authorities.

Following Impellizzeri's arrest, concerned parents gathered outside the school, demanding answers and expressing their distress over the situation. Shatora Sheikh, a parent with a child attending the school, expressed her shock and concern, "I wanted to throw up. I was sick to my stomach literally not knowing if my kids, my daughter, particularly that goes to that school, had eaten anything, touched anything."

Sheikh criticized the school district for not providing specific details regarding the allegations. She shared an email sent by Upper Deerfield Schools to parents, which only mentioned "alleged inappropriate online postings made by an employee of our district." It wasn't until Thursday night, when a friend shared the specifics with her, that she became aware of the extent of the accusations. "I believe us as parents would've been happier if they would've told us the situation, 'This is what happened. We're doing A through Z,' but nobody told us anything," she lamented.

Impellizzeri was hired by the Upper Deerfield Township School District in September 2019 and reportedly committed the alleged actions while working as a custodian at the school. The exact timeline of the incidents is currently under investigation.

The school district is said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to the Cumberland County prosecutor. Natalie Schmidt, another concerned parent, expressed worry about her child's health, stating, "I had no idea it was going to be to this extent. None. I am freaking out right now. I have to take my kid and get him a whole workup done medically because I don't know what he has ingested."

The Upper Deerfield Township School District and the public defender's office representing Impellizzeri have yet to release any statements or comments regarding the matter.

In response to the alleged food contamination, the Cumberland County Health Department is working closely with the school to ensure proper sanitization of food preparation areas, serving utensils, and all surfaces. They have also made it a priority to discard any potentially tampered products. The health department has received numerous calls from concerned parents and aims to provide further guidance by Monday.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits more information regarding these disturbing allegations that have undoubtedly shaken the Elizabeth Moore School community.
