In newly released depositions from the ongoing lawsuit surrounding the wrongful death of Gabby Petito, the parents of the slain Long Island woman, Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt, learn about the aftermath of their daughter's tragic demise. The depositions, which were made public on Monday, provide insights into the actions of Brian Laundrie, Gabby's fiancé, and his parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie.

The lawsuit alleges that the Laundrie family had knowledge about Brian Laundrie's involvement in Gabby's murder and intentionally withheld information. A Florida judge has already ruled against the Laundrie family in a wrongful death suit filed by the Petito family, awarding them $3 million. However, a trial scheduled for May will determine the amount owed to the Petito family for pain and emotional distress.

The depositions shed light on the events that unfolded after Gabby's tragic death. According to Roberta Laundrie's deposition, Brian called his parents frantically on the afternoon of August 29, 2021, informing them that Gabby was "gone" and asking for help in finding him an attorney. At the time, Brian was driving back home across the country without Gabby.

Roberta Laundrie admitted that her son's sudden distress during the phone call raised concerns. However, she hesitated to press for more information and mentioned Brian's troubled state to her husband, Chris Laundrie. Brian's father, Christopher, also mentioned that his son sounded "frantic" when he spoke to him on the phone. Brian informed his father that Gabby was "gone" but did not disclose that he was responsible for her death, leaving Christopher unsure of what to make of the situation.

Despite their concerns, the Laundrie family made no attempt to contact Gabby or her parents after the call. Roberta Laundrie claimed that her attorney advised against speaking to anyone, therefore she refrained from reaching out to Nichole Schmidt, Gabby's mother. Roberta's deposition also revealed the existence of a letter found in Brian's backpack, containing disturbing content referencing burying a body and a shiv. Gabby's parents argue that this letter should be included as evidence in their lawsuit.

However, Roberta Laundrie maintained that the letter was written before Brian embarked on the ill-fated road trip and claimed she had no premonition of the future. She referred to it as a "poor choice of words" and expressed her remorse upon reading it later.

The depositions provide crucial insight into the Laundrie family's reactions and actions following Gabby's death. As the legal proceedings continue, the details revealed in these depositions may play a significant role in the pursuit of justice and determining the extent of the Petito family's compensation for their pain and emotional distress.

The young couple's cross-country road trip, which was intended to be documented by Gabby as an aspiring social media influencer, took a tragic turn with the domestic violence incident in Moab, Utah, on August 12, 2021. Gabby was later murdered by Brian in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest before he returned to Florida. The search for Brian Laundrie ended when his remains were discovered in a Florida nature reserve, with investigators determining that he died by suicide.

The Petito family will continue to seek justice and closure in this heart-wrenching case, while the released depositions serve as a sobering reminder of the tragic events that unfolded and the legal battle that lies ahead.
