The newborn, later named Elsa by hospital staff, was discovered on the junction of Greenway and High Street South in Newham by a dog walker.
According to Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, the dog walker heard the baby crying and quickly located her inside a shopping bag. It was around 9:15 p.m. when the infant, wrapped in blankets, was found. The temperatures had dropped to a bitter 24 degrees Fahrenheit at the time.
Fortunately, the dog walker immediately took action to keep the baby warm until an ambulance arrived. Chief Superintendent Simon Crick confirmed in a news conference that the baby girl, now named Elsa after the popular Disney character, was unharmed and is doing well.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information and urging the mother to come forward. Chief Superintendent Crick expressed concern for the mother's welfare, noting that she would have likely experienced a traumatic experience and may require medical assistance. He emphasized the importance of seeking help, regardless of the circumstances.
This incident follows a similar case from last month, where a Florida baby was found abandoned in the woods shortly after birth. The child, still attached to her placenta, was discovered after a resident heard her cries and mistook them for a cat. The baby was wrapped in old blankets and exposed to temperatures in the 50s.
The discovery of these abandoned babies highlights the urgency of ensuring support and resources are available to those facing difficult circumstances surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. The authorities continue to investigate both cases in the hope of bringing some resolution to these troubling incidents.
As the search for answers continues, the focus remains on the well-being of the newborn girl, Elsa, who has been given a chance at a brighter future through the care and intervention of the dog walker and medical professionals.
