New York Man Faces Multiple Charges After Fatal Christmas Night Crash in Somerset

SOMERSET, Mass. - Adam Gauthier, a 41-year-old New York man, has been arrested and is now facing several charges in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Christmas night in Somerset, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III.
Gauthier, formerly of Somerset, was arrested on Monday night and has been charged with two counts of manslaughter while operating under the influence, two counts of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, and one count each of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on a state highway.
The tragic incident took place on the Veterans Memorial Bridge shortly after 11 p.m. Following reports of a wrong-way crash, troopers were alerted to the scene. Quinn stated that Gauthier was driving his vehicle in the wrong direction while crossing the bridge, resulting in a collision with two oncoming cars.
Expressing his condolences, Quinn stated, "This is a terrible tragedy, especially when it occurred on Christmas night. My heart grieves for the victims and their family for their terrible loss."
Gauthier, who sustained injuries in the crash, was arraigned from his hospital bed on Tuesday. He has been ordered to be held on $100,000 cash bail.
