The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced travel restrictions on commercial traffic, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles in anticipation of an approaching winter storm. The storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to parts of the state, with forecasts predicting up to a foot of snow.
Effective from 2 p.m. on Saturday, commercial travel will be restricted along certain sections of highways in North Jersey due to the anticipated winter weather conditions. The DOT has emphasized that driving conditions could become treacherous, particularly in North Jersey, as the winter weather is expected to begin on Saturday afternoon.
The DOT has coordinated these travel restrictions with neighboring states and is urging all motorists to avoid unnecessary travel throughout the weekend. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
The following highways will be subject to the travel restrictions for commercial vehicles:
These restrictions, however, do not apply to several other state highways, including the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway.
To ensure safety during the storm, the DOT advises trucks already in the state at the time of the restrictions to find shelter at rest stops and refrain from pulling over onto the shoulder.
The DOT will provide updates on the status of travel restrictions through message boards along the roadways, as well as on Facebook and Twitter (@NewJerseyDOT). Motorists can also access real-time traffic information at 511nj.org.
As New Jersey prepares for the winter storm, these travel restrictions aim to minimize the potential risks and ensure the safety of all residents and drivers. The DOT advises everyone to stay updated on the latest travel advisories and exercise caution if they must travel during this time.
