New Hampshire faced the brunt of the first statewide winter storm on Sunday, with roads turning treacherous and snowfall reaching up to 18 inches in some areas. Plow crews worked tirelessly to combat the rapidly falling snow and ensure the safety of drivers.

Salem, a region heavily impacted by the storm, accumulated around 17-18 inches of snow, making it one of the areas hit the hardest. In Pelham, a home experienced minor damage after a tree fell onto its roof due to the weight of the snow on the branches. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident highlights the dangerous conditions caused by the heavy snowfall.

Residents in Pelham rallied together to clear driveways and assist their neighbors during the storm. Some even had to shovel three or four times before sunset in an effort to stay ahead of the accumulating snow. Elaine Axler, a resident of Pelham, expressed surprise at the snowfall, stating that she did not expect so much since 1 o'clock. Another resident, Daniela Castro, echoed this sentiment, mentioning that they were aware of the snowfall but not to this extent.

Not everyone was dismayed by the storm, as Diana Castro, a young girl from Pelham, enthusiastically shared her love for the heavy snow. Diana reveled in the fact that being shorter allowed her foot to sink easily into the snow, allowing for enjoyable activities like sledding and making snow angels.

The impact of the winter storm serves as a reminder for residents to exercise caution and take necessary precautions during winter weather conditions. With more snowfall expected across New Hampshire, it is imperative for individuals to stay updated on weather reports and follow safety guidelines to minimize any potential risks associated with the winter season.
