On Tuesday, the Mumbai Police and the Mumbai administration cracked down on the Islamists who had attacked Hindus on January 21st in the Mira Road region of the city. The attack occurred as Hindus were celebrating the return of Lord Ram to his home in Ayodhya after 500 years, ahead of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
Reports indicate that the illegal construction associated with the accused individuals involved in the Mira Road clash has been demolished by the Maharashtra Security Force and Mumbai Police. Live visuals captured the bulldozer action in Mira Road, where the clashes erupted following the Ram Temple rally.
Specifically, the attack in Mira Road involved Islamists tearing flags depicting Lord Hanuman, deeply hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community. The police have arrested approximately 13 individuals in connection with the case. Due to the sensitivity of the matter, no further details about the accused perpetrators have been disclosed by IO Dilip Rakh.
In response to the police action, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining "zero tolerance" against those who disturb law and order in the state. Deputy CM Fadnavis was briefed on the incident that took place in NayaNagar in Mira Bhayender and had instructed the police to take strict action against the culprits involved.
The incident itself occurred on January 21st, around 10:30 PM, when a group of 50-60 individuals from a specific community threatened and attacked a man while he was traveling in the Mira Road region. The attackers used rods to damage the victim's car and removed the Hindu flag placed on it. They also vomited on a poster of Lord Hanuman, a deeply offensive act to the Hindu community.
The complainant stated that the assailants chanted "Allah-hu-Akhbar," struck him on the head with an iron rod, and attempted to kill him. The violence did not spare women and children who were accompanying him, as they were also targeted with stone pelting.
The complaint has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder (307), punishment for wrongful restraint (341), deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings (295A), promoting enmity between different groups (153A), unlawful assembly (141), and mischief causing damage (427).
The situation in Mumbai remains tense following the violent incident in Mira Road. The police have been deployed at various locations to prevent any further untoward incidents from occurring.
