American YouTuber, MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, has received a mixed response following the release of his latest video, where he claimed to have built 100 wells across Africa. The video showcases MrBeast's efforts to provide clean drinking water to approximately 500,000 people in Cameroon, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Alongside the wells, a fundraiser organized by MrBeast had already raised over $300,000 by Monday morning in support of local water aid organizations.

In the 10-minute video, MrBeast is seen making additional contributions, including donating supplies such as furniture, soccer balls, computers, whiteboards, and projectors to Kenyan schools. He also undertook the construction of a bridge to safely connect a village with nearby schools and hospitals. Furthermore, he donated bicycles to a Zimbabwean village, aiming to help children reach school more easily.

Although MrBeast's actions have drawn positive attention, particularly from his online following, some activists and journalists in Kenya have pointed out the failures of the Kenyan government, highlighting the need for private individuals to step in. Prominent activist Boniface Mwangi criticized the government, describing the country as "shameful" and "horrible," governed by millionaires. Freelance journalist Ferdinand Omondi appreciates MrBeast's efforts but finds it embarrassing that charitable interventions are necessary, suggesting that government resources should have addressed these issues sooner.

While CNN reached out to a spokesperson for the Kenyan government for comment, no response has been received thus far.

MrBeast, who is the most subscribed individual creator on YouTube, with over 200 million subscribers, has become widely known for his philanthropy. His previous videos include sponsoring cataract surgeries for 1,000 blind individuals and providing prosthetic limbs for 2,000 amputees. His charitable endeavors have contributed to the potential growth of his business empire, estimated to be worth over $1 billion, and he was recognized by Time magazine as one of the most influential people in 2023.
