COMPTON, Calif. - In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a chaotic scene unfolded as a large mob of looters broke into Ruben's Bakery & Mexican Food in Compton, leaving the business in complete disarray. The incident occurred during a street takeover in the area, involving approximately 100 individuals.

According to the Compton Sheriff's Station, the street takeover near the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue involved people burning debris and trash on the streets. Around 3:30 a.m., a group of young men and women targeted the bakery, raiding the store and causing significant damage.

Eyewitnesses captured video footage showing the mob leap onto counters, steal food, and even make off with cash registers. Shockingly, the group utilized a white Kia Soul to crash into the building repeatedly. Law enforcement officials revealed that this same vehicle had been involved in a brief pursuit earlier in the morning from the nearby Carson area, which was later terminated.

Residents living in the vicinity expressed alarm and frustration over the recurring street takeovers. One anonymous woman described how such incidents have become disturbingly common, occurring two to three times a month. She shared her repeated calls to authorities and her growing desensitization to the dangerous activities taking place.

As deputies arrived at the scene, the group swiftly dispersed, evading immediate arrests. However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) has not ruled out the possibility that a few individuals may have been detained in connection to the street takeover.

The brazen looting incident has left the bakery owners and employees shaken. "It's terrifying to know that we have a pre-school right across the street and there's people doing things like this," said a worker at the neighboring school. With the support of the community, they hope to restore operations and recover from the damage inflicted upon their business.

LASD continues to investigate the incident, analyzing the video footage and working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for the bakery break-in and the street takeover. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

In the face of ongoing street takeovers, Compton residents and local businesses are calling for increased security measures and a coordinated effort by law enforcement to curb these dangerous activities.
