A shocking case has emerged in Jefferson City, Missouri, as a local teacher has been accused of attempted murder after her husband reported being poisoned over a span of several weeks. According to court records, the husband captured the wife on video adding a toxic plant to his smoothie.

The Jefferson City Police Department launched an investigation into the allegations of intentional poisoning after the husband reached out to them. Subsequently, 37-year-old Sarah Scheffer, a resident of Jefferson City, was arrested and charged with first-degree domestic assault. Further charges of attempted murder in the first degree and armed criminal action have also been filed against her.

The husband had suspected foul play for the past six weeks, reporting a series of unexplained illnesses. According to a probable cause statement, there were eight instances in which Scheffer provided him with food or beverages that had a peculiar taste, leading to extreme fatigue, confusion, blurred vision, severe cotton mouth, and nausea shortly after consumption.

The situation came to a head on January 1st when the husband confronted Scheffer about a bitter-tasting beverage she had brought him. In the probable cause statement, it was revealed that she initially admitted to urinating in the drink and later claimed to have added an industrial-strength adhesive. However, she then denied adding anything at all.

Fearing for his safety, the husband decided to install a hidden surveillance camera. The footage captured Scheffer preparing a smoothie for him in a blender, adding a plant-based substance from a green bowl. The husband had previously seen a similar root labeled "lily of the valley" on a table in their home.

Authorities seized the smoothie from the refrigerator and it will be sent to a state laboratory for testing. When questioned by the police, Scheffer confessed to intentionally adding the lily of the valley root to the blender with the intent to harm her husband. According to the probable cause statement, she acknowledged knowing the ingestion of this plant could result in fatality.

At present, Scheffer is being held without bond at the Cole County Jail. No attorney information or court hearings have been listed in online court records.

Revelations surrounding Scheffer's potential flight risk came to light during police interrogation. She allegedly mentioned having a relationship with an individual in Pakistan and searches for flights to the country were found on her electronic devices, raising concerns about her compliance with legal procedures.

Scheffer is a design and art teacher at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City. However, following her arrest, her name and photo were removed from the school's faculty page. The school has been notified of the criminal matter, and the employee has been placed on leave. Calvary Lutheran High School stated that the incident did not involve any students or other faculty members and emphasized their commitment to the well-being of their community.

As this shocking case unfolds, authorities will continue to investigate the allegations against Sarah Scheffer, ensuring justice is served in this disturbing incident of alleged attempted murder.
