A 22-year-old student from Onaway, Michigan, who had been missing for almost a month, has been found safe in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Matthew Grant, a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), was reported missing on November 20.
Search efforts had been underway for weeks to locate Grant, but a breakthrough came on Wednesday when his Jeep was discovered in a parking lot frequently used by hikers near the Appalachian Trail in the Pocono Mountains, close to Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania.
An extensive search of the area was initiated following the discovery, but it turned out to be unnecessary as Grant walked into a police station in Palmerton, Pennsylvania on Wednesday around 4 p.m. He immediately contacted his mother to inform her of his safety.
Grant confirmed his well-being in a message posted on a Facebook page dedicated to his search on Thursday. The news brought relief to his family, including his father Mark, who spoke with UpNorthLive. However, the family did not disclose the reasons behind Grant's disappearance.
At RIT, Grant is pursuing a major in mechanical engineering and is also serving as a captain of the wrestling team, as stated on the university's website.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the search for their assistance and support. The details of Grant's disappearance and the circumstances leading to his safe return remain unknown at this time.
As the investigation unfolds, Grant can now resume his studies and wrestling activities, knowing that his loved ones are relieved to have him back home safe and sound after an anxious month of uncertainty.
