Memphis Police Officer Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car During Traffic Stop

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis Police officer is currently in the hospital following an unfortunate incident where he was hit by a car during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m. when officers initiated a traffic stop on a maroon Corvette that was traveling east on East Holmes Road. The vehicle, which had a flat tire and no displayed tag, came to a stop when a Dodge Challenger pulled up alongside it.
Eyewitnesses claim that a male and a female promptly exited the Corvette, at which point the officer attempted to detain the male suspect. However, before he could do so, the Challenger suddenly collided with the officer and his patrol vehicle.
Upon impact, the Challenger swiftly fled the scene, leading to a pursuit by law enforcement. However, the officers lost sight of the vehicle at the intersection of Getwell Road and Shelby Drive.
The injured officer was promptly taken to Regional One Hospital, where he is currently being treated for his injuries. Fortunately, his condition was reported as non-critical, and no other injuries were reported at the scene.
The Memphis Police Department is actively investigating the incident to determine the whereabouts of the hit-and-run suspect and gather more information about the incident. As of now, no further details have been released.
