In a shocking development, Mayor Eric Adams of New York City has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 1993. The accusation came to light as part of a lawsuit filed under the state's Adult Survivors Act, which allows accusers to sue their alleged abusers regardless of when the abuse occurred.

The three-page summons was filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan just two days before the law's expiration. The Adult Survivors Act, passed by the state Legislature in 2022, has provided a platform for survivors to seek justice and monetary damages in civil court.

While the name of the mayor's accuser is being withheld by Gothamist, the summons states that she was sexually assaulted by Adams when they both worked for the city of New York. The court filing also names the transit bureau of the NYPD, the Guardian Association of the NYPD, and three other unknown entities as defendants.

The lawsuit accuses Adams, the NYPD, and the co-defendants of not only sexual assault but also battery, employment discrimination, retaliation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. However, the plaintiff's attorney, Megan Goddard, has yet to comment on the matter.

Mayor Eric Adams has vehemently denied the charges leveled against him, stating, "It absolutely did not happen. I don't recall ever meeting this person. And I would never harm anyone in that magnitude." His spokesperson, Charles Lutvak, supported this denial, saying that the mayor does not even know who the accuser is.

This accusation comes at a challenging time for Mayor Adams, as his campaign is already under federal investigation. Recently, FBI agents seized his electronic devices and raided the home of a key fundraiser. However, it's important to note that Adams himself has not been accused of any wrongdoing, and the investigation appears to be focused on illegal donations from Turkish officials and a Brooklyn construction company that organized a fundraiser for him.

The Adult Survivors Act has been a catalyst for numerous lawsuits, with more than 2,500 people being sued under its provisions. Among the high-profile figures facing legal action are former President Donald Trump, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Bill Cosby, and actor Russell Brand. Additionally, Brooklyn state Senator Kevin Parker is also currently facing a civil lawsuit, with a woman accusing him of raping her in her apartment in 2004.

The outcome of this lawsuit against Mayor Eric Adams remains to be seen, but it highlights the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for survivors to come forward with their allegations. As the legal proceedings unfold, the city will be closely watching to see how this case may impact Adams' tenure as mayor and the ongoing investigations surrounding his campaign.
