Massachusetts is preparing for two additional rounds of snowfall over the weekend as wintry weather continues to impact travel across the state. The mixed bag of snow, ice, and rain on Tuesday has resulted in challenging road conditions, and the situation is expected to persist with the arrival of freezing temperatures and single-digit wind chills.

According to Boston 25 Meteorologist Shiri Spear, the first chance for snow will be on Thursday, but it will likely be a "low-impact" system. Parts of the state may see a coating to about half an inch of snow, and due to the frigid temperatures, any flurries are likely to stick to untreated surfaces. The central and western regions of Massachusetts have the highest probability of seeing flurries, but some snowfall is also possible in the MetroWest area.

A more significant snowfall event is expected on Friday afternoon and evening, impacting the commute home. Areas south of the Massachusetts Pike could see up to 3 inches of snow, while regions north of that may receive a coating to an inch of snowfall. While the snowfall will be on the lighter side, it could still make travel conditions challenging during the evening commute on Friday.

The cold weather will persist throughout the weekend, with Arctic air remaining in place. High temperatures are expected to stay in the 20s, accompanied by sub-zero wind chills in the mornings. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and protect themselves from the harsh cold.
