In an unexpected move, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, revealed on Tuesday that he has embarked on a new project—raising cattle at his sprawling ranch in Hawaii. Zuckerberg took to Instagram and Facebook to share his foray into the world of cattle farming, expressing his ambition to create top-tier beef.
Zuckerberg disclosed that he is raising both wagyu and angus cattle, with the intention of producing some of the highest quality beef in the world. He added that the animals will be fed a unique diet consisting of macadamia meal and even beer, which is believed by some to stimulate their appetites.
However, the practice of providing beer to cattle is not widely adopted among farmers, despite popular belief. Nevertheless, Zuckerberg seemed enthusiastic about the process, stating that he requires a substantial number of acres for macadamia trees, as his cows consume a significant amount of feed, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 pounds annually. He emphasized his commitment to keeping the feeding and raising process localized and vertically integrated.
"We're still in the early stages of this journey, but it's been a rewarding experience with improvements made each season," Zuckerberg wrote in his social media post. "Out of all my projects, this is undeniably the most delicious one." Accompanying his statement was a mouthwatering image of a delectable cut of meat.
While Zuckerberg is making headway in his cattle farming venture, his Hawaiian compound, known as Ko'olau Ranch, has remained shrouded in secrecy for years. The tech mogul began acquiring land on the island of Kauai back in 2014, attracting scrutiny regarding his impact on the local community.
Previously, Zuckerberg faced backlash for pressuring Native Hawaiians into selling their ancestral land through legal action. However, in 2017, he publicly apologized in an op-ed published in a local Kauai newspaper and vowed to drop the lawsuits.
Adding yet another element to his Hawaiian retreat, Wired reported in December that Zuckerberg is constructing an underground bunker at his expansive compound. It seems that the CEO's tranquil ranch is evolving into a multi-purpose haven with ventures spanning from cattle rearing to personal security.
As Zuckerberg continues to explore diverse pursuits on his Hawaiian ranch, only time will tell what other ventures lie ahead for the tech tycoon in this tropical paradise.
