In a bold move, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, 39, and his wife Priscilla Chan have made headlines yet again as they prepare to invest a staggering $270 million in a top-secret Hawaii compound. The project, set to be one of the largest personal constructions of all time, will be located on the northeast shore of Kauai, Hawaii's oldest island.

According to public records and court documents obtained by WIRED, the extravagant amenities of Zuckerberg's Koolau Ranch property have been revealed. The compound will encompass multiple mansions, an entire village, and an astonishing 5,000 square foot underground bunker.

The two sprawling mansions within the compound will cover an impressive total of at least 57,000 square feet. The highlight of the underground tunnel system connecting the mansions is its versatility, serving as both a pathway and a shelter. Spanning 5,000 square feet, the tunnel features a living area, library, and an escape hatch.

Zuckerberg's ambitious vision doesn't stop there. The self-sufficient estate is equipped with a sustainable food and water source, ensuring that residents and guests never have to leave. Furthermore, the property boasts every possible amenity one can imagine.

One truly unique feature of the compound is a network of 11 treehouses connected by rope bridges. However, it is worth noting that the contractor responsible for the construction of these treehouses previously sued Zuckerberg, alleging unpaid funds amounting to $133,726.

Despite its opulence, Zuckerberg's Hawaiian estate has not been without controversy. Accusations of "colonizing Hawaii" have been leveled against the Facebook founder, with critics claiming that he sued natives to build his mansion on their land. A Change.org petition in 2020 called for the preservation of Hawaiian land and criticized Zuckerberg's actions.

In 2022, tragedy struck when a security guard employed at Zuckerberg's Kualoa Ranch property, Rodney Medeiros, suffered a heart attack and passed away while on duty. The guard had been walking up a steep hill on Pilaa Beach alone during a rainy day. The family pursued a wrongful death lawsuit against Zuckerberg, seeking justice for their loved one.

Zuckerberg's dedication to privacy is evident in the construction of a six-foot-tall stone wall along the property, implemented in 2016. The wall serves to shield the lavish estate from view and runs adjacent to a road in the semi-rural community of Kilauea.

With Mark Zuckerberg's $270 million undertaking, the secretive Hawaii compound is poised to become a testament to extravagant wealth and luxury, but not without drawing criticism and controversy along the way.
