Man Injured in Deputy-Involved Shooting to Face Multiple Charges, Investigation Underway

OMAHA, Neb. - A male suspect who was injured in a deputy-involved shooting on Saturday morning will face several charges upon his release from the hospital, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO). The incident, which occurred at the intersection of 108th and Maple, is currently being investigated by the DCSO, Omaha Police, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
The DCSO reported that the off-duty sheriff's deputy was on his way to the DCSO Law Enforcement Center at 156th and Maple to begin his shift when he encountered a fight disturbance at the intersection around 5 a.m. Recognizing the need for assistance, the deputy requested on-duty personnel from Douglas County Dispatch.
Backup units were promptly dispatched, and a "help an officer" call was issued just two minutes later. During the altercation, the deputy discharged their weapon, resulting in an injury to one of the individuals involved. The injured male was quickly transported to Bergan Mercy hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Fortunately, the deputy did not sustain any harm during the incident.
Following his recovery, the injured suspect will be booked on multiple charges. The DCSO revealed that the charges will include third-degree domestic assault, domestic assault by threatening an intimate partner, theft by shoplifting up to $500, driving under suspension, giving false information, failure to use a turn signal, property damage, and disorderly conduct.
In accordance with DCSO policy, the deputy involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities have stated that it is still in its early stages, and further information will be released at a later time.
