LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - A 51-year-old man has been arrested and is facing a DUI charge following a tragic incident in the northwest Las Vegas valley. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon around 12:45 p.m., prompting a response from Metro officers to the area of Decatur and Lake Mead boulevards.

According to authorities, evidence gathered at the scene and witness statements indicated that a 2010 Honda Pilot SUV was traveling east on West Lake Mead Boulevard when it suddenly started veering towards the right side of the road. Tragically, at the same time, a pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk on the south side of Lake Mead Boulevard.

The Honda SUV failed to maintain its lane and proceeded to drive onto the sidewalk for a brief distance. In doing so, it struck both the pedestrian and a nearby fence. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the injuries sustained by the pedestrian.

Although the driver of the Honda SUV remained at the scene, officers noticed signs suggesting the driver may have been under the influence of prescription drugs. The driver, identified as Jose Ramirez, was subsequently arrested on a charge of DUI resulting in death.
