In a light-hearted moment during a speech to the National Association of Counties, President Joe Biden, 81, made a quip about his age, stating, "I know it doesn't look like it but I've been around a while. I do remember that." The crowd of local officials responded with laughter and cheers, highlighting the President's ability to connect with his audience.

This jovial tone was a stark contrast to President Biden's previous reaction to a report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, which questioned his memory. The report described Biden as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," leading the President to express his frustration at the doubt cast on his recollection, including the death of his son Beau.

Following the release of this report, a new poll conducted by ABC News/Ipsos found that 86 percent of American voters believe Biden is too old to run for a second term as President. Additionally, the same poll revealed that 62 percent of respondents think that former President Donald Trump, 77, is also too old for another term in the White House.

Furthermore, the survey showed that 59 percent of respondents believe both Biden and Trump are too old to be considered as top 2024 competitors, while 27 percent believe only President Biden should be disqualified based on his age. Notably, President Biden currently holds the title of the oldest president in U.S. history, surpassing Trump by eight years when he assumed office at the age of 78 in January 2021. If reelected for a second term, Biden would be 82 at the time of inauguration.

The negative polling regarding Biden's potential reelection bid follows the release of the long-awaited Justice Department report, which did not recommend charges against former President Trump for his handling of classified documents. The report, spanning 345 pages, stated that investigators found President Biden's "memory was significantly limited" during interviews with his ghostwriter and with Hur's office last year. Notably, Biden did not remember when his son Beau died, nor the years he served as vice president.

During a visibly angry response to the report, President Biden vehemently refuted its claims, stating, "How in the hell dare he raise that. Frankly, when I was asked that question, I thought to myself, 'Wasn't any of their damn business.'" Biden emphasized that he did not need anyone to remind him of his son's passing, as the family holds a Memorial Day service each year to remember him.

Trump and his supporters seized on the report and its findings to question President Biden's fitness to serve in office. Trump asserted at a rally in South Carolina over the weekend, "If Joe Biden is not fit to charge [with a crime], but it's OK for him to become commander in chief? Biden is bad for democracy because he's grossly incompetent. Plus, he uses DOJ and FBI and everything he can to go after an opponent, and nothing has ever happened like that in this country."

As the debate over age and fitness to serve continues, these poll results highlight the concerns of a significant majority of Americans regarding President Biden's ability to complete another term in office. Ultimately, the decision on his candidacy for 2024 will rest with the American people as they evaluate his ability to lead.
