LSU running back Trey Holly, along with two others, has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred at a Union Parish apartment complex. The incident left two innocent bystanders injured with gunshot wounds.
Holly, a 19-year-old freshman, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of a weapon on a public roadway. Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates confirmed the charges and stated that Holly turned himself in after being notified of an arrest warrant. He is currently being held on a bond of $512,000 at the Union Parish Detention Center.
One of Holly's attorneys, Kelvin Rodgers, stated that his client vehemently denies all charges and will plead not guilty. Rodgers expressed confidence in Holly's innocence and mentioned their anticipation of an opportunity to present their case in court.
As the investigation continues, Sheriff Gates indicated that there may have been another shooter involved. The identity of the second suspect is not yet known. However, Gates mentioned the possibility of "additional arrests" in the future.
Following Holly's arrest, LSU athletics released a statement announcing his indefinite suspension. The university mentioned that the suspension was in line with their departmental policies and provided no further comments out of respect for the judicial process.
The shooting took place on February 9 at the Union Villa Apartments in Farmerville, Holly's hometown. According to the Farmerville Police Department, a woman was shot three times and is currently in critical condition. A man was also shot once in the lower leg. Both victims were innocent bystanders and are expected to survive.
An investigation conducted by the Union Parish Sheriff's Office revealed that multiple individuals fired rounds during the incident. The shooting was reportedly sparked by previous altercations at a nearby apartment complex. Farmerville police identified several persons of interest during their ongoing investigation.
In addition to Holly, two other individuals were arrested on Thursday. Jordan Jones, 18, faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons on a public roadway. A juvenile male from Farmerville, whose name has not been disclosed, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons on a public roadway, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal possession of a handgun.
Trey Holly had a promising start to his football career at LSU. As a freshman, he rushed for 110 yards and scored a touchdown. He earned the title of Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after a notable performance against Army. Prior to his college career, Holly achieved success in high school football, setting a Louisiana record with 10,523 career rushing yards over five years.
Holly's arrest comes as a blow to the LSU football program, and his indefinite suspension will have a significant impact on the team's upcoming season. The university and fans alike await further developments as the legal process unfolds.
