The largest migrant caravan in a year, consisting of approximately 7,000 individuals, is making its way towards the US border, according to a report by the New York Post. The caravan, which includes migrants from Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Venezuela, departed from southern Mexico on Monday with the aim of reaching the United States.

Officials in the Mexican state of Chiapas confirmed that around 3,500 people embarked on foot from Tapachula, near the Guatemalan border. However, one of the organizers of the caravan, Irineo Mujica, claimed that the initial group consisted of about 5,000 individuals, and the number has since grown to over 7,000.

Speaking to Real America's Voice, Mujica, a US citizen and self-proclaimed "human rights defender," criticized President Biden's handling of immigration and accused Latin American countries of conspiring to create the current immigration crisis. He alleged that these countries are taking advantage of the situation to extract money from Washington, while the Biden administration turns a blind eye.

Mujica asserted that immigration is being "weaponized" against the US and the Biden administration, with Mexico, in collaboration with other Latin American countries, facilitating the influx of migrants towards the United States. He further claimed that irresponsible governments in the region are charging migrants for transportation to the US border and allowing them to be temporarily held and released instead of being deported.

Expressing his disappointment, Mujica stated that the Biden administration has failed to reach an agreement with their counterparts in Latin America to address the escalating migrant crisis. He also compared President Biden's immigration policies unfavorably to those of his predecessor, Donald Trump, who focused on constructing a border wall to deter migrants.

President Biden is currently facing mounting pressure to address the increasing number of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border, both legally and illegally. Many migrants are fleeing poverty and political turmoil in their home countries. This year has witnessed record numbers of individuals crossing the Darien Gap region, which connects Panama and Colombia, with 420,000 migrants making the journey aided by Colombian smugglers, according to Panamanian figures.

The current caravan of migrants traveling through Mexico is reported to be the largest since June 2022 when 6,000 individuals embarked on a similar journey towards the southern US border. Migrants in the current caravan have expressed concerns about the slow processing of refugee or exit visas at Mexico's main migrant processing center in Tapachula. Due to the overwhelmed migration system in Mexico, individuals seeking visas often face prolonged waits without the ability to work, leading them to live on the streets in precarious conditions.

On Monday, asylum seekers formed a long line along the highway, occasionally escorted by the police, as they continue their journey towards the US border.
