In a startling incident at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, a JetBlue plane tilted backwards with its nose in the air and its front wheel off the ground after landing. According to Business Insider, the incident occurred while passengers were disembarking from Flight 662 that had arrived from Bridgetown, Barbados, on Sunday night.

JetBlue released a statement to Insider, indicating that the plane had landed as scheduled and the incident took place during the deplaning process. The airline stated that the tilt occurred due to a shift in weight and balance, causing the tail of the aircraft to tip backward and consequently lifting the nose of the plane. However, it reassured that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The Associated Press reported that the plane title back at an angle of approximately 30 degrees. Video footage shared on social media showed the JetBlue plane attached to the gangway, with its nose and wheel elevated off the ground.

One passenger, Sinead Bovell, who was on the plane during the incident, captured the inside of the cabin in a TikTok video. In the video, a flight attendant can be heard instructing passengers to slowly move towards the middle of the aircraft to restore balance. Bovell described the sudden tilt, stating that it occurred when more than half of the passengers had already disembarked. The plane tilted so rapidly that the tail hit the pavement of the jet bridge, causing damage to the plane's door.

Bovell mentioned that passengers were required to physically rebalance the aircraft by strategically shifting their positions within the cabin. She emphasized that fortunately, no one was exiting the plane when the tilt occurred. The affected plane has been taken out of service by JetBlue for inspection, as safety remains the airline's top priority.

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees JFK Airport, the wider functioning of the airport was not disrupted by the incident. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
